The new arrival at Old Trafford is ready for the challenge of pursuing both Premier League and Champions League glory, having said goodbye to Southampton after seven years
New Manchester United signing Morgan Schneiderlin says that the Red Devils are out “to win everything” after securing a return to the Champions League last season.
After a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League, manager Louis van Gaal has already recruited Schneiderlin along with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian this summer.
And the France international says that nothing less than trophies would meet United’s targets this term.
“It’s a must for the club to be in the top four and winning the title is very important,” Schneiderlin told reporters.
“With the players we have in the team you see there is a lot of quality.
We are ready to do our best and then mix it with the Champions League.
These are the two main targets for the club but we want to win everything, it’s as simple as that.”
After coming close to leaving Southampton last summer, Schneiderlin finally joined United earlier in July and says that his years of development with the Saints, including a drop into League One early in his stay there, have set him up well for his new challenge.
“Looking back, it benefited me,” he recalled of his spell in the third tier as a teenager.
“I had to toughen my play, to look myself in the mirror and look where to progress. It makes you realise you don’t want to be back there.
“It was the best thing possible. It makes you work even harder and that’s what I did.”
